Plum & Cherry Old-Fashioned

Prep: 20 minutes plus cooling
Cook: 15 minutes • Serves: 4

Fruit Syrup

2 ripe plums, halved, pitted and chopped
1/2 cup pitted sweet cherries plus additional for garnish (optional)
1/4 cup granulated sugar


4 orange wheels plus additional orange zest twists for garnish (optional)
1 cup bourbon whiskey
8 dashes orange bitters (about 1/4 teaspoon)

Fruit Syrup
1. In small saucepot, heat plums, cherries, sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil over high heat; reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 15 minutes or until reduced by half and slightly thickened, stirring and mashing fruit occasionally. Cool completely; strain and discard solids. Makes about 1/2 cup.

2. In cocktail shaker, muddle orange wheels and Fruit Syrup with muddler or large wooden spoon handle; add whiskey and bitters. Fill shaker with ice; stir 1 minute.

3. Fill 4 (10-ounce) rocks glasses with ice. Strain whiskey mixture through fine-mesh strainer into glasses; garnish with cherries and/or orange zest twists, if desired.
